The Uriach Foundation History of Medicine Award was created in 1970 with the aim of encouraging and promoting studies on the history of the health sciences. This annual international prize was awarded for 51 years to the best work which, in the judgment of a jury appointed for that purpose, dealt with a topic related to the history of the health sciences. The award was aimed not only at professionals, researchers, and students in the field of health sciences, but also at all history enthusiasts interested in exploring the origins and development of disciplines such as Medicine, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, Chemistry, and Botany.
Throughout its existence, the History of Medicine Award had the participation of some of the most renowned academics and professionals as jury members and counted among its laureates some of the future leading figures in the field.
