On 17 November 2025, the Board of Trustees of the Gran Teatre del Liceu presented, posthumously, the Gold Medal to Dr Joan Uriach Marsal, founder and president of the Uriach Foundation, who passed away in December 2024, in recognition of his affection for and philanthropic commitment to the Liceu and to Catalan culture more broadly.

  • Acquisition: press archive advertisement (1927) ()

This corporate advertisement by Uriach (1927) is intended to present and promote the company, highlighting its long history “Founded in 1838” and a modern corporate structure for the time “S.A.” (public limited company).

In the piece, Uriach describes itself as a laboratory and factory for chemical-pharmaceutical products and outlines a business model that includes import and export activities, emphasizing its role as Spain’s agent for well-known French, Italian, British, and North American pharmaceutical specialties.

The advertisement identifies and shows, through two photographs, the company’s premises in 1927: the offices at Bruch, 49, and the industrial complex at Fomento, 59–65. At the bottom, it lists telephone numbers, a post office box, and a telegraphic address, typical forms of commercial communication of the period.

  • When Anatomy Became a Book ()

In 1725, the “Opera omnia anatomica et chirurgica” was published in Amsterdam, a majestic edition that gathered and reinterpreted the work of Andreas Vesalius (1514–1564), the great reformer of modern anatomy.

Three centuries later, this compilation remains a publishing milestone: it not only preserved the legacy of the renowned “De humani corporis fabrica” of 1543, but also presented it in a monumental format, accompanied by magnificent anatomical illustrations that forever transformed the way medicine was taught.

The Library of the Uriach Foundation preserves an original copy of this historic edition, a testimony to the transition between the Renaissance and Enlightenment science.

In 2025, we celebrate 300 years of a key work that marked the beginning of the path toward modern medicine as we know it today.

  • Acquisition of the 1904 Uriach Calendar ()

This 1904 Uriach advertising calendar combines practical utility with the promotion of the company’s products.

This 1904 Uriach advertising calendar combines practical utility with the promotion of the company’s products. Printed at the F. Mascaró Printing House, each double-page spread offers a two-month calendar with saints days and festivities, alongside an advertisement for medicines from the ALOMAR line, such as cod liver oil, Morrhuol capsules, bitter orange bark syrup, turpentine pearls or ether, mustard paper, and kola nut wine, as well as international products for which the company was the exclusive agent, such as Allcock’s plasters, Brandreth’s pills, or Pagliano’s specialties.

Added to the Uriach Foundation Archive database, this calendar is a clear example of pharmaceutical marketing prior to modern regulation, with a Modernist aesthetic that reflects Uriach’s diversification and consolidation in the Spanish market of the early 20th century.

  • International Self-Care Day ()

Since 2011, every July 24th marks International Self-Care Day, a date promoted by the International Self-Care Foundation to remind us that well-being begins with the choices we make every day.

dedicated to the history of health sciences and natural health, we know that self-care is not a recent trend. Throughout the centuries, different cultures have valued balanced nutrition, rest, physical activity, contact with nature, and the use of medicinal plants as pillars for preserving health. From the thermal baths of the classical world to the hygienist recommendations of the 19th century, history shows us that caring for oneself has always been both an individual and a collective responsibility.

Today, more than ever, promoting self-care means fostering prevention, active listening to the body, and emotional health. It also means recovering natural, sustainable, and environmentally respectful practices as tools for physical and mental balance.

On this International Self-Care Day, we encourage you to:
    ✔ Prioritize rest and movement
✔ Connect consciously with your nutrition
✔ Find moments of calm and silence
✔ Make use of natural resources to improve your well-being

Because health doesn’t begin in a doctor’s office, but in the way we live each day.

  • Uriach Friends ()

On June 26, the Uriach Friends event took place, created and organized by the Uriach Foundation with the aim of bringing together former collaborators of the company to share experiences, celebrate shared successes, and create new memories.

The reunion was held at the Palau Dalmases in Barcelona (Montcada Street, 20), a space that was Uriach’s second headquarters between 1872 and 1919, and where the company began a process of growth and evolution that continues to this day.

The first edition, held on June 26, 2025, at the Palau Dalmases in Barcelona, was a reunion filled with joy and emotion that exemplifies one of Uriach’s most important values: people come first. For this inaugural session, a small group of participants was gathered, which allowed us to gain valuable learnings. Thanks to the success of this first meeting, in future editions we will extend the invitation to a larger number of friends, who will enrich the event with new perspectives, memories, and synergies.
