  • Classes in the Master’s in Nutrition and Metabolism (URV-UB) ()

As part of the activities of the Uriach Chair in Nutraceuticals, during the month of February, professionals from different Uriach departments took part in the course “Functional Foods” within the official Master’s in Nutrition and Metabolism (URV-UB), aimed at students from the Faculties of Chemistry in Mallorca and Tarragona.

During these sessions, students gain first-hand, highly practical insight into how the strategy for an innovative product is conceived and developed, following all the necessary stages through to its market launch. Key areas covered include: innovation (led by Alba Domínguez and Anna Fortuny), product development (led by Elena Quintanilla), project management processes (led by Marta Castiñeira), regulatory affairs (led by Marta Graupera), and quality control (led by Cristina Espada).

These classes are not only essential for the Master’s students, but they also reinforce the Uriach brand as a benchmark in the field of natural products and highlight the work of the Uriach Foundation as the entity responsible for the Chair.

  • Uriach 1912 Catalogue ()

A few days ago, Mr. Xavier Lluch donated the General catalogue of drugs, chemical and pharmaceutical products, pharmaceutical specialties and mineral waters. J. Uriach y Cia. Barcelona, 1912.

This is a work of notable documentary and historical value, which will be incorporated in the coming days into the archives of the Uriach Foundation. With this addition, the collection strengthens one of its most distinctive holdings: more than one hundred commercial catalogues from the Uriach company, covering a chronological span from 1864 to the present day.

These types of publications are a particularly valuable source for understanding the evolution of products, technical and advertising language, and changes in healthcare and consumer practices in each period. In addition, they help preserve and highlight a direct testimony to Uriach’s historical development in Barcelona at the beginning of the 20th century.

  • Acquisition: press archive advertisement (1927) ()

This corporate advertisement by Uriach (1927) is intended to present and promote the company, highlighting its long history “Founded in 1838” and a modern corporate structure for the time “S.A.” (public limited company).

In the piece, Uriach describes itself as a laboratory and factory for chemical-pharmaceutical products and outlines a business model that includes import and export activities, emphasizing its role as Spain’s agent for well-known French, Italian, British, and North American pharmaceutical specialties.

The advertisement identifies and shows, through two photographs, the company’s premises in 1927: the offices at Bruch, 49, and the industrial complex at Fomento, 59–65. At the bottom, it lists telephone numbers, a post office box, and a telegraphic address, typical forms of commercial communication of the period.

  • When Anatomy Became a Book ()

In 1725, the “Opera omnia anatomica et chirurgica” was published in Amsterdam, a majestic edition that gathered and reinterpreted the work of Andreas Vesalius (1514–1564), the great reformer of modern anatomy.

Three centuries later, this compilation remains a publishing milestone: it not only preserved the legacy of the renowned “De humani corporis fabrica” of 1543, but also presented it in a monumental format, accompanied by magnificent anatomical illustrations that forever transformed the way medicine was taught.

The Library of the Uriach Foundation preserves an original copy of this historic edition, a testimony to the transition between the Renaissance and Enlightenment science.

In 2025, we celebrate 300 years of a key work that marked the beginning of the path toward modern medicine as we know it today.
