Formulario cirurjíco para uso del Hospital Militar de Mahòn

The Hospital de la Isleta, also known as the Royal Army and Navy Hospital, was considered the most important of all military hospitals on the Iberian Peninsula, due to its strategic geographic location and the therapeutic, surgical, and pharmaceutical applications carried out there—particularly during the Spanish War of Independence. These innovative treatments and formulas were still being used a century later in renowned European hospitals, such as that of Paris.

The “Surgical Formulary for Use at the Military Hospital of Mahón” was written by the hospital’s director and chief surgeon, Dr. Manuel Rodríguez Caramazana, on March 25, 1808. In 2014, the Uriach Foundation, in collaboration with the Hospital Illa del Rei Foundation, published a facsimile edition of the work, which includes a descriptive study by Dr. Anna M. Carmona i Cornet, as well as a prologue by Dr. M. Gràcia Seguí Puntas.

This is one of the most recent works published by the Uriach Foundation. If you would like to obtain a copy, please contact us through this link.
